Side Event - Camp Cafe

Post by Tyler on 20th July 2014, 12:04 pm

Just like Aqua Vs. Ruby, this is a side event to where you can interact with other members who are in the olympics. Think of this thread as an rpg board. Here you'll find that the counselors are off to one side of the cafeteria to chow down on a hearty lunch while the campers socialize. Have fun. Who knows. What you say here might help determine more details about your characters. Event 7 might be a bit before it shows up since Event 6 requires specific things.

Whitney sat down with her lunch tray, again, the first one out of the lunch line. She took a big bite of her sand which, causing peanut butter and jelly to smear all over mouth.

Carefully balancing her tray of food, Ashlyn searched the cafeteria for an open table. Finding none, she swallowed hard and instead searched for someone she knew. When she spotted Whitney, she gathered her courage and made her way over. "Mind if I sit with you?" she asked hesitantly.

Whitney nodded and quickly pulled out the chair beside her and patted it for Ashlynn to sit. The girl grinned "hi Ashlynn! Are you okay?! You look pale!"

Ashlyn blushed. "I'm fine, thanks for asking." Sliding into the seat, she offered Whitney a shy smile. After taking a small bite of her grilled cheese sandwich she asked, “What do you think of camp so far?”

"it's great! Loads of fun!" whitney exclaimed around a mouthful of apple, which she washed down with chocolate milk.

The other girl’s energy made Ashlyn smile. Something about Whitney reminded her of a puppy; cute, fun, and playful. “It is nice,” she agreed after a pause.

Whitney looked up at Ashlynn and squinted then smiled brightly. "what's your favorite part?!" she asked cheerfully then looked aroud and waved at random people.

Chewing her lip, she frowned, considering the question. What was her favorite part? Finally, she said, “I like the lake and there’s a willow tree I like to go to. And meeting you was fun.”

Dylan looked around for an empty spot in the over-crowded cafeteria. She'd had no idea so many people had signed up for this camp! It made her feel slightly claustrophobic. Spotting an empty seat next to Ashlyn, she made her way over and quietly sat down.

As Dylan sat down next to her, Ashlyn scooted over so that they weren't crowded together. With a shy smile, she glanced over and said, "Hi, Dylan."

"Hi," Dylan replied softly, taking a bite of her peanut butter sandwich. She was allergic to grapes, so she couldn't eat the jelly. She realized that sitting next to Ashlyn was probably going to be very awkward, as neither of them were really great conversation starters. Oh, well.

Ashlyn fidgeted with her skirt as she wondered how to start a conversation with the other girl. It was something she wasn't good at and she didn't want to annoy Dylan by talking too much about something the other girl didn't like. After a minute of awkward silence that had Ashlyn on the edge of her seat, she asked, "What do you think of camp? Are you..having fun?"

Dylan took another bite of her sandwich as she thought about the question. Was she enjoying herself? She guessed so. It was nice to get away from home for a little while. She shrugged.

"It's a nice atmosphere. I like the activities, and the fact that it's so...relaxed," she decided. "You?"

Ashlyn considered it for a moment. "It's peaceful and I like that we're allowed to explore what we like. I don't usually have time at home," she said before taking a bite of her sandwich. "Have you made any friends?"

No. The answer was no. Of course Dylan hadn't made any friends, she couldn't even talk to people unless they spoke first. She shrugged again.

"I'm not exactly a friendly person," she explained. Then she thought again. "Whitney's nice," she conceded, taking another bite of her sandwich.

Whitney was more preoccupied with opening her smuckers peanut butter and jelly sand which, without biting into it, she wanted to take it apart to see how it looked from the inside, but was getting more messy then anything.  She looked up t Dylan "hi! I'm Whitney!"

Ashlyn nodded in agreement to Dylan's assessment of Whitney. Their conversation didn't seem to be going well, and she got the feeling she might be annoying the other girl. Deciding that if Dylan wanted to continue to talk it'd be better to let her initiate, Ashlyn remained silent.

Dylan felt the corner of her mouth twitch at Whitney's childish innocence. How could she be so happy all the time?

"I know. We've met," she said with a half smile.

Ashlyn couldn't keep from giggling as she watched Whitney take apart her sandwich. "What are you doing?" she asked, stifling another laugh. "You're making a mess."

Dylan was slightly worried about the jelly getting everywhere. She had an EpiPen, but she didn't really want to use it.

"Um...Whitney? I don't want to ruin your fun or anything, it's just...could you be careful? I'm kind of allergic to grapes..." she trailed off.

Whitney nodded at Dylan quickly "OKAY! SORRY!" she exclaimed and looked at her jelly covered hands before doing the sensible thing and wiping them on her yellow shirt.

Before Whitney could get too much on her shirt, Ashlyn handed her some napkins. "Here. They're better than your T-shirt." She carefully looked over her small part of the table to make sure the jelly hadn't spread too far.

Whitney started using the napkins instead "Thank you!" she said loudly as she smiled and cleaned off her hands then got into her chocolate milk.

Dylan raised an eyebrow in a half exasperated, half incredulous expression at the girl's actions. Clearly, the hyper-active girl meant well, but she really did need to think more.

"As long as you don't hug me, we're good," she said with a breathy sort of laugh.

Ashlyn eyed the milk carefully, hoping it didn't spill. "You're welcome." After taking a quick sip of her own milk, she grabbed the napkins, threw them away, rinsed her hands to get any left over jelly off, and returned to the table.

Whitney nodded so hard and quickly it looked as though her head would pop off "Okay! I'll only hug you when I'm clean!"

Dylan actually burst out laughing. Whitney was a rare one, that's for sure. She finished her sandwich and took a sip of her water.

"Thank you," she said with a small smile to Ashlyn as she sat down.

Ashlyn returned Dylan's smile. She had to wonder if the other girl would be comfortable with Whitney hugging her even if she was clean. But then, she could be wrong. "Do we need more napkins?" she asked. "I don't mind getting more."

Dylan shrugged.

"I think we're good. For now," she smirked, glancing at Whitney as she happily inspected her food.
